Medicare Supplement Plans

Medicare Supplement Plans (also know as Medigap plans) are the "letter name plans" such as Plan G or Plan N.

They are intended to cover what is not covered by Original Medicare (Part A and Part B).

Medicare Supplement plans allow you to see any doctor who accepts original Medicare.  Although the monthly premiums are higher than Medicare Advantage plans, they are the most flexible in terms of accessing the treatment you need since it is you and your doctor, not an insurance company that decide on what you need.  Also, the out-of-pocket costs are lower (or none) when you seek treatment.

Has your Medicare Supplement Plan premium increased recently?

  • Many people don't realize they can switch their Medicare Supplement Plan anytime of the year.  They do not need to wait until the Annual Enrollment Period (October 15th to Dec 7th).

  • However, you will have to go through underwriting.  If you have pre-existing health conditions, you may get turned down for the new coverage.

  • Make sure you don't cancel your old coverage until you are accepted into the new plan.

What if the new Supplement Plan denies me due to Health Issues?

Since California is a "Birthday Rule State" you can switch to a new Medicare Supplement Plan up to 30 days after your birthday without having to undergo medical underwriting.  You are guaranteed to be accepted during this 30 day window.

If you have questions about what Supplement plan is best for your situation, I would be happy to explain the differences and help you find the best fit.
